The Housemaid Trilogy by Freida McFadden: The Perfect Weekend Binge-Read

The Housemaid Trilogy by Freida McFadden, with its fast and addictive pace, is a perfect reading fix for the long Easter weekend.
It’s entertaining, slightly unsettling, and trust me, very, very bingeable.

The series includes three books—The Housemaid, The Housemaid’s Secret, and The Housemaid Is Watching—and honestly, once you start the first one, you’ve already signed yourself up for the other two, so don’t even try to resist.

The books revolve around Millie, who might not be perfect but is definitely gritty. She comes with a lot of emotional baggage from her past and somehow always ends up taking housekeeping jobs in homes that are almost not so perfect. And through it all, there’s this constant feeling that something is definitely wrong.

The chapters are short, the writing is simple, and before you even realise it, you’ve easily read 5–6 chapters in just one sitting. Personally, I enjoy the ease with which you get into the entire setup—there’s no slow build-up, no elaborate character explanations, and no big delays before things start happening. The uneasy feeling just keeps growing until your gut is betrayed by yet another twist.

While you’re all caught up in the dramatic twists and thrills—which are definitely hard to miss—the series also subtly touches on how difficult it is for a convict to build a normal life after jail, how easily people exploit someone else’s weaknesses for their own benefit, and how deceptive appearances can be.

And something that i keep wondering, even now, is how we hardly ever know what’s really lurking behind those closed doors.

Like many others, I enjoyed the first book more than the other two—maybe it was that beginner’s rush—but that didn’t stop me from finishing the rest of the series.

So if you decide to binge the series, don’t go in looking for deep meaning or philosophy—just enjoy the setup and let it mess with your head a little.

If you’ve already read it, do share your favorite lines in the comments—I’d love to read them.
