Rating: 4 out of 5.
Sometimes you simply needed someone kind to sit with you while you dealt with things.

Sharing my thoughts on this week’s pick, “Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine” by Gail Honeyman The book is an emotional read. I first read this book a couple of years ago, and this week, I happened to come across a hard copy at a friend’s place, that is when I decided to share it with you, along with everything that the story made me feel. Before, I even start sharing about this book, I hope everyone comes across it at just the right time in their life, when they are ready to truly feel and appreciate it. So if you feel ready, let’s see learn why Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.

Story Overview:

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is Eleanor’s story of struggle, loneliness and healing. At first, you enjoy her quirks and the odd ways in which she navigates her life, slowly you get to know about her past and the things she has gone through, and then finally you see her fighting back slowly yet steadily with the support of friends and the people around her. Her journey may have started in isolation, but it ends with meaningful connection and the kindness of others.

Characters and Themes:

Eleanor Oliphant is the heart of the story. Throughout the book you get to see her honesty and awkwardness which makes her feel real and relatable. Her journey from living with years of emotional trauma, and then slowly healing is both moving and memorable. Raymond’s character brings warmth and freshness to Eleanor’s otherwise cold and lonely world. His kindness and patience not only open a new path for Eleanor, but also allow the reader to experience the comfort of a genuine friendship .There are also other characters, both living and remembered, who continue to shape Eleanor’s journey of healing.

While the theme of loneliness is very obvious, the novel also shows how living with trauma and pain for a long time without support can make a person choose isolation as a defense mechanism. At the same time, we also see, how even small acts of care can make a huge difference in someone’s life. Sometimes, by just being present and meeting someone where they are, instead of expecting a fully healed version, can help them start there healing journey.

What Makes it Special:

There are two things I really enjoyed about the book. The first is how it made me realize that even though there are so many things wrong with the world around us, choosing to retreat into a shell and trusting the voices in your head will eventually isolate you for real. Facing everyday challenges is the only way we can truly heal one day. The second is how everyone expects healing to happen instantly, or assumes that what helped one person should work for everyone. Unfortunately, there is no one‑size‑fits‑all formula for healing. It happens in different ways and at different paces, and it cannot be forced.

Who Should Read It:

The book is for anyone who has ever felt trapped in their own thoughts and has chosen isolation as way to cope with overwhelm. Reading the book will help you realize you are not alone. Even though the book may seem heavy at times, the darkness is only part of the storytelling. You will also get to enjoy Eleanor’s quirks and her friendship with Raymond, which will bring lightness and joy. The book feels just right for this imperfect world, leaving you with a sense of optimism for the future. Finally, it also gives you a chance to better understand and support people who might be quietly struggling, reminding us that kindness and presence can truly make a difference in someone’s life.
