Ted Lasso Season 4 Review: A Fresh Start with Richmond’s Women’s Team
There’s a reason why the rearview mirror is smaller than the windshield.
While I am not new to Ted Lasso, this season definitely has that fresh beginning vibes, which is working in its favor. There is now a new team, new challenges, and a completely different dynamic from what we were used to in the earlier seasons, making it feel less like a continuation and more like the beginning of a brand new story. The pace may feel a little slower compared to the earlier seasons, but it somehow feels intentional, giving us the time to truly connect with the new characters.
What Season 4 Is Really About
Season 4 begins with a fresh start for everyone.
We get to meet many new faces, balanced with just the right mix of familiar characters, making it feel fresh while still holding on to a touch of nostalgia.
This season helped me see what happens after the happy ending, when people have to step into new roles, take on new challenges, and start building something from scratch again.
At the beginning, there is a lot going on all at once, which makes everything feel a little uncertain. But slowly, things start to fall into place, and by the end of the season, I felt completely settled into this new world.
What Worked for Me
This season definetly had many good moments to remember it by.
The Women’s Team Storyline
Like everyone, going into Season 4, the things I was most curious about was the introduction of the women’s team, and it turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the season.
I really enjoyed watching a completely new group of players come together, and figure things out as they went along. Watching them build trust, find their place, and grow together made their journey feel just as amazing as the storyline from the past. And, by the end of the season I already have my favorites to root for.
The Familiar Warmth
Thankfully, the warmth that made the earlier seasons so special is still there. The kindness, optimism, humor, and belief in people continue to sit at the heart of the story, which makes sure it still feels like Ted Lasso.
The New Energy
The energy that the new players bring in is truly infectious. Even though this is the fourth season, the sense of excitement and unpredictability is making it all feel like a new beginning.
Trust me, the charm of watching new friendships form and new challenges unfold is very real, and it makes you more and more invested in each of their stories.
What Felt Different This Time
Season 4 feels different from the very beginning. The story is no way stuck in nostalgia. Even when the emotions feels familiar, they were without doubt unique and natural to the storyline.
That being said, this season did feel a little slower compared to the previous ones. In many ways, that pace felt justified, but there were moments when I found myself wishing the story could have moved a little faster.
Themes That Stayed With Me
With so much new happening this season, here are some of the themes that stood out.
Starting Over
Starting Over is definitely one of the strongest themes of this season. Whether it is a new team, a new role, or a completely new chapter in life, the show is not hesitating in dealing with any of it.
The storyline is honest in showing both the uncertainties as well the joy that comes with starting something from scratch.
Believing In People
Just like the previous seasons, Ted’s belief in people continues to give us some truly beautiful moments that restore our faith in others.
Choosing trust, encouragement and support when someone has done nothing yet to prove their potential, is still one of the things I admire the most about Ted.
Teamwork
At the start of the season, we see how the team isn’t exactly united, but a trivia night and a fistfight against a common enemy slowly bring them together. What I appreciated the most is how the connections aren’t exactly forced or rushed, the team slowly comes together with time and shared experiences.
Another great example of teamwork can be seen in the dynamic between Ted, Beard, and the new assistant coach, Alice. Even when all three of them have completely different personalities and coaching styles, they learn how to work together for the same goal. Instead of always agreeing, they challenge each other, bring different perspectives to the table, and keep working on making the team stronger.
Creating Opportunities
Whether it is Keeley fighting to create opportunities for the team or the players working hard to earn opportunities for themselves, this season constantly reminds us that opportunities don’t always appear on their own and have to be created by shear willpower.
Each of the characters keep showing up, put in the work, and create paths where none seemed to exist before, showing how sometimes belief and determination have to come before the actual opportunity itself.
Why Season 4 Still Has The Ted Lasso Vibe
Even with all the changes, every episode of Season 4 kept reminding me how the Ted Lasso vibe was never about a particular team or storyline. It was always about how the show leaves you a little more hopeful, a little more optimistic, and a little more willing to believe in people, and that is exactly what this season continues to do, without any hiccups.
Watching Season 4 felt a little like running into an old friend after years apart, knowing that things have changed, they have grown, and life has moved forward, but somehow still trusting the bond. If, like me you have already watched the Season 4, share your thoughts in the comments, and if you are planning on watching it later, do come back and share your views, I would love to read them.
