5 Things I have Learned to Stop Worrying About
Some days it feels like life comes with a never ending list of worries, which keeps getting longer and longer as we keep getting older and wiser. While not everything on this list requires our undivided attention, it is always a good feeling to tick some items off the list. Here are five things, I have gradually learned to worry about a little less.
1. What People Think of Me
Letting go of that need for approval has been one of the most freeing things I have learned. After years of second guessing myself, I realized that not everyone has to agree with me or understand my choices. As long as I am acting in a way that feels right to me, it doesn’t require anyone’s validation. The more I started trusting my own judgment, the easier it became to live with my decisions.
2. Having Everything Figured Out
For a long time, I kept waiting for career, relationships, finances, and everything to make sense. In the process, I somehow missed that no one really has everything figured out. Accepting that it is okay to have unfinished plans, unanswered questions, and things that are still a work in progress has made it much easier for me to accept my incomplete task list and imperfect self.
3. Missing Out on Things
Even now, the constant social media updates and the conversations with people around me keep reminding me of all the things I am supposedly missing out on every day. A trip, an event, an opportunity, a life milestone, or just something that everyone else seems to be a part of. But with time, I have made my peace with missing a few things, while choosing to fully enjoy the ones that truly matter to me.
4. Making Mistakes
Something which I have enjoyed learning over the years is that, for almost everything, there is a next time. Now, instead of spending hours thinking about what I should have done differently to avoid a mistake, I focus on trying again, doing better, or simply approaching things differently. Most mistakes feel much bigger in the moment than they actually are. Sometimes, the best thing to do is to step away from them for a while. Giving it a little time and distance often brings perspective, helping me see them for what they really are.
5. Choosing a Different Path
What I have slowly picked is, how everyone around me is working with different timelines, priorities, and circumstances. What feels right for someone else may not be right for me, and it is perfectly fine. It shouldn’t stop me from trying new things, making my own choices, and creating a life that fits me. We all move at our own pace, and being on a different path doesn’t mean being on the wrong one.
These are a few worries that I have slowly crossed off my list over the years. None of them disappeared overnight, and each of them left me with a lesson. But letting them go has definitely made my life feel lighter, calmer, and more open to new experiences. Which is why I would also love to know what things have you stopped worrying about with time. Do share your thoughts in the comments. I would love to read them.
