Five Reasons I Keep Choosing Walking — Plus a Bonus

Over the years, I’ve tried all kinds of fitness routines—from intense HIIT workouts to yoga, with the occasional sport thrown in just to keep things interesting. While some of these are still very much part of my life, many were only around for a brief season.

Among all of them, one simple habit that continues to give both my old and new routines some tough competition is walking.

This simple yet life-changing act of putting one foot in front of the other has not only helped me shed a couple of kilos whenever I stick to my routine, but has also helped me outrun countless loops of overthinking.

As someone who genuinely enjoys walking, here are five reasons why I think you might fall in love with it too:

Walking shoes or flip-flops—just wear whatever feels comfortable, and you’re ready to go. No judgment, no planning.

No last-minute cancellations, no waiting on people. It’s just you, ready to step out whenever it feels right.

You can use it to socialize if you’re up for it, or switch off completely—you decide.

It’s a tough companion to lose. Once it enters your life, it stays with you through different stages of life.

Trust me when I say this: it will change you, and you will notice it soon.

And as a bonus, it’s almost always free.

If you’re a fellow walking lover, I’d love to hear your thoughts. How have your walks been lately?
